PLAN YOUR REQUEST
Where are your belongings going?
Add the destination country and town or delivery area. International movers need the route as well as the item list to review a shipment. If the address is not settled, explain what you know and what is still missing. You can ask about Europe, the USA or another destination; the available service and delivery arrangements must be confirmed for that journey.
What are you taking with you?
Start with the furniture and appliances, then estimate the boxes. Say whether this is a household move or selected belongings. Mention heavy, fragile or awkward items and any packing help you want considered. An inventory or photographs can help explain the load; keep passports, payment details and unrelated personal documents out of the enquiry.
Storage before the shipment
In the description, say how long you expect to need storage and when the belongings should be ready to travel. Your collection date, departure date and expected delivery date may all be different. If any date is uncertain, explain it rather than choosing a date that does not reflect your plans.
Packing for an overseas move
Tell us whether you want packing help and what has already been packed. Ask which items need extra preparation and whether the quotation includes that work. Keep passports, personal documents and items you need while travelling with you. Do not put essential paperwork in a shipment that you may not receive until later.
Paperwork and destination requirements
Ask what information and documents are needed for the destination, and check the relevant official customs guidance before packing. Rules depend on the country and the goods being moved. The quotation should clarify the agreed services and any charges or work excluded. Do not assume customs clearance, duties or destination handling are covered unless confirmed.
Delivery at your new address
Include access details for the home, apartment or workplace receiving the shipment. Tell us about building rules, lifts, loading restrictions and who can accept the goods. If you do not have the address yet, explain that in the form. Overseas timing and delivery arrangements need to be reviewed for the specific route rather than promised from a general page.
Compare the complete international quotation
Check which collection, packing, storage, shipment and delivery work is included. Ask what is excluded, who handles destination paperwork and which charges may arise outside the agreed service. For country-specific customs and import rules, use the destination authority's official guidance rather than a general moving page. Requirements can change, so confirm them for your shipment before it leaves.
Check official guidance for the shipment
Use the GOV.UK customs declaration checker for the UK side of the journey. For the destination, use that country's customs authority. For a USA move, start with U.S. Customs and Border Protection guidance on household and personal effects.
Confirm the requirements for your goods and route before shipment, including who will handle any paperwork. These links help you find the official information; your agreed quotation should set out the shipment services.
An example enquiry
Your London tenancy ends before your overseas home is ready. Add the destination country, furniture and box estimate. In the description, give the collection deadline, expected storage period and any fixed date affecting the onward shipment.
Use this example as a guide to the details you can include in your own request.
